DESIGN TYPE: Branding, Photography, Videography

MADE IN: 2018-2020

Throughout highschool at Garth Webb Secondary School in Oakville, ON I participated in FIRST robotics, an international competition where under strict rules, limited time and resources, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team under the FIRST principle of 'Gracious Professionalism', encouraging students to engage with eachother and the teams sponsors in a professional manner.

As a member of the FIRST robotics team 5409 I was the Media Lead in my last year, being placed in charge of all the graphical elements and anything that would be representative of us as a team. While I was Media Lead we started producing bi-weekly videos to send to our sponsors so that they could stay updated with our progress, and began posting more on social media platforms.

FIRST robotics gave me a lot of opportunities that I see as invaluable to me as a Graphic Design student. It taught me how to work in a positive manner with a team when under pressure, how to communicate deadlines and expectations, and how to behave in a semi-professional environment.
